13th July 2012
The English National Ballet are coming to Duke of York Square on Friday 13th July for a very special evening of dance and film.
As part of the ballet’s collaboration with the London 2012 festival and the ‘Big Dance Week’ the English National Ballet will be holding a series of workshops and live performances in ballroom, tap and ballet, all featured in the legendary film ‘Shall we Dance’ starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
We will then be screening ‘Shall we Dance’ on our big screen from 9.15pm as the sun sets over Duke of York Square, and what better way than to watch the movie in this very special setting, than with a bottle of Champagne from the Pommery Champagne tent that will be on the Square.
If that is not enough then you will also be able to learn the moves, see costumes, meet the stars and see the designs for costume and hair & make up close from the English National Ballet’s hit production of ‘Strictly Gershwin’.
Big Dance, founded in 2006, is the world’s biggest dance initiative. This major biennial dance festival is a vibrant, high profile campaign to get everyone dancing – wherever they are, whatever their age, experience or ability.
Big Dance week runs from the 7 – 15 July 2012 and is part of London 2012 Festival – the finale of the Cultural Olympiad.
English National Ballet is the West London hub for Big Dance, working together with Local Authority partners, arts organisations, venues, individuals and local communities to deliver a varied programme of dance events.
