Visit Saatchi Gallery from 21 March - 24 June for their latest major exhibition featuring the works of 17 contemporary artists
We’ve brought the beach to Chelsea this summer with a huge architect-designed sandcastle at Duke of York Square from 1-25 June. The castle has been commissioned by the Museum of Architecture as part of the exciting inTransit Festival and London Festival of Architecture.
Drawing inspiration from this year’s themes of ‘memory’ and ‘island life’, Nex Architects created the sandcastle drawing on the history of Sir Hans Sloane – who also happens to have his own statue at the Square, just a stone’s throw away from the castle. Inspired by his travels and the large range of natural specimens that Sloane collected throughout his life, our sandcastle represents a large shell in sand, offering an x-ray view through the outer surface inside the castle’s structure.
Why not come down and take a look for yourself? This is also perfect for little ones, who can build their own creations in the accompanying sandpit.
Giant sandcastles can also be found at the Design Museum and Tavistock Road. More information coming soon and available on www.londonfestivalofarchitecture.org
